LED FAQs

What is an LED?
LED is an abbreviation for Light-Emitting Diode. LEDs consist of a semiconductor diode that emits light when a voltage is applied to it. LED technology has been used in the electronics industry for decades, and is now becoming practical in general lighting applications.

What are the Advantages of LEDs?
LEDs have many advantages over incandescent and CFL bulbs. LEDs are more durable, have better light temperatures, and are more efficient, giving the user more working hours. LEDs are considered to be more sustainable, require less maintenance, and potentially give more optical control.

What is Rohs?
The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive restricts the use of six hazardous material in the manufacture of various types of electronics and electrical equipment. Adopted in 2003 by the European Union, RoHS has become a global certification that many manufacturers, who wish to sell in Europe, have adopted.

What is UL Listed
UL is a safety science organization that certifies, validates, test, and inspects products around the world. Depending on the certification, a product must pass various safety, performance, or sustainability standards. More information on UL Standards

What is Color Temperature?
The color temperature is an important factor that can change the mood of any building interior. Measured in Kelvin, LEDs range from 2,700K (similar to an incandescent bulb) to 6,500K (similar to daylight). As the color temperature increases, light goes from a warm orange glow to a cooler blue tone.

What is CRI?
Color Rendering Index (also, Color Rendition Index) is a measure of the light sources ability to reproduce an objects color compared to natural or ideal light. The higher the CRI, the more accurate a color will appear when the light is being used.
